The students were asked what they thought of the class, who their favorite artist was that they had found over the course of the class and just overall thoughts. This is what they had to say. . .
This class was a great experience. It was nice to have the freedom to explore so many things under the umbrella of art and the watershed.

My favorite aritst I found this semester was Bob Johnson. With volunteers, he goes to rivers and collects trash, he takes what he finds, goes to a local junk yard and crushes all the stuff into cubes. These cubes are then put on display along the trails and around the site to help promote awareness about the damage we are doing to our water supply.

I am not a fan of getting up at 7am to go to school and was not too happy about having to take this early morning class. However, I found I have truly enjoyed the experience. The material is fresh and engaging, my classmates are inspirational and I enjoyed working in a group on projects. ...And the day at the Washout was great!

Dave (a guest lecturer we had in class) has me inspired because of his knowledge, love, and concern for the Califonia rivers and the environment around them.
~Marisa Hudlin
This class helped to make me aware of how we as people mean "good", such as technology, but we aren't consiously aware of the impact and influence we have on the planet. I enjoyed looking up research on various things related to the watershed and the environment.

When I started this class the only thing i knew about Earth Art was Robert Smithsons work and "The Spiral Jetty". But, through research for my projects I have come to realize that Earth Art is so much more than it was in the 1960's, artists like Lorna Jordan are actually improving the environment with their work.
~Macy Joachim
This class was quite an expierence. I had a lot of fun building the website for my final project, as well as working with my small group. I like being able to explore ideas for this class that I normally wouldn't have done on my own.
~Jessica Stevens
This class has been so enriching for me. My favorite part has been the annotated bibliography as it forced me to get out there and research what's really going on in the art world today. I especially like the artists who are working successfully outside of the gallery scene. I definitely plan on making this type of bibliography a part of my curriculum when I teach high school. I also liked learning about the proposal process and how to go about creating these types of projects. I think this will help me in the future when I start thinking about larger, perhaps collaborative projects.
~Rachel Duryee
At first I found the open structure of the class disconcerting, but as we began working in groups and sharing our findings I found it to be liberating. The presentations that resulted, in part, from this seminar style class structure were fascinating, informative, and ultimately confidence building. We can make substantial, large scale artworks that can gain the attention of a wide audience and thereby influence culture! The artworks that inspired me most (other than the works of classmates) were created by Paul "Moose" Curtis, Eve Mosher, Hamish Fulton, Ned Kahn, and Bob Johnson.
