BIOGRAPHY
Teresa Cotner is from Los Angeles, California. She earned a BA in Art at California State University, Sonoma (1986), an MA in Art History and Single Subject Teaching Credential at California State University, Los Angeles (1995), and a PhD in Art Education at Stanford University (2000). She taught high school art in Los Angeles and after completing her PhD she taught at California State University, San Bernardino for five years and is currently finishing her third year at California State University, Chico.
SCHOLARSHIP
Dr. Cotner research interests include qualitative inquiry, classroom discourse, integrated arts, and international art curricula. She has published papers in Art Education, Studies in Art Education, the International Journal of Education, a book review in the International Journal of Education and the Arts, and a chapter in Teaching Art in Context. She presents annually at CAEA and NAEA and recently presented a paper at InSEA, Osaka, Japan 2008. In July 2009 Dr. Cotner will present a paper at the International Conference on Learning in Barcelona Spain.
STUDENT ADVOCACY
Notably, 3 Chico State students accompanied Dr. Cotner to Japan for the InSEA conference. The students co-presented with her and their expenses were partially funded through Dr. Cotner's Office of Sponsored Programs 2008 Summer Research Stipend. InSEA also provided partial sponsorship to the students for their wok as English Language Editors of the conference catalogue.
Six Chico State students accompanied Dr. Cotner and attended CAEA annual conference in Burlingame, CA, November 2008. Five attended CAEA with Dr. Cotner in Pasadena, CA November 2007.
Dr. Cotner is the Faculty Mentor for the art education student club, Da Da. Da Da has raised over $500 to help with student travel to conferences and museums and also sponsors the annual Art Education Student Exhibition.
Dr. Cotner served two years as a Residence Halls Faculty Mentor at Chico State.
